Special Ed Teacher Gets Praise for Walking Kids Home, Goes Viral

Tabitha Tudy Jones was driving home from the post office recently when she spotted a man walking with several children that didn’t appear to be his.

So she quickly pulled over and snapped a picture of the scene in Memphis, Tennessee.

“I didn’t think this was part of the job description,” Jones told ABC. “But it’s so sweet that he goes above and beyond for the children.”

The man is a teacher at Whitney Achievement Elementary School. Carl Schneider, a special education teacher, has been walking kids home through rough neighborhoods for three years, according to reports.

“Frayser gets a lot of bad press, but I have never felt unsafe,” he told WAFF.

“I smile and look at every single person I walk by in the eye and they reciprocate.”

Tabitha is among the many praising Carl’s actions, saying “Big UPS to this teacher!”

Now four other teachers help him walk the 40 kids home each day.

“We can just get to know the kids and talk about what they did over the weekend or how their behavior was at school that day or what they learned,” said Schneider.

“I’m also really glad that people know the teachers in this community are really invested in the community,” Schneider added to local reports.

Whitney Achievement Elementary School also set up a fundraising campaign to help supply the teachers with shoes and umbrellas.

Another Good Samaritan: Flight Attendant

A Southwest Airlines flight attendant was captured on video carrying the baby of a passenger in an attempt to soothe the fussy girl.

Savannah Blum, a teacher, was traveling back home to Reno, Nevada after visiting family in Texas with her 19-month-old daughter Brittan, reported NBC New York.

During the trip, her daughter didn’t want to sleep like she usually does on flights, according to the report.

Meanwhile, the pair made a stop in Las Vegas and unexpectedly had to swap planes, Blum said. However, the flight attendant, who identified herself only as Jessica, encouraged the mother, saying, “I’m gonna be on the flight with you.”

They got on the next plane, and Jessica offered to hold the child, saying, “Come here, baby. I got her, Mama. You go sit down.” Blum then recorded the Southwest crew member carrying her baby through the plane while preparing for takeoff.

“Everyone loves this little girl- even Southwest passengers and flight attendants,” Blum wrote on social media.

Southwest, in a statement to NBC, said its employees “take great pride in delivering our legendary Southwest Hospitality, so it’s not surprising that one of our amazing Flight Attendants shared her Southwest Heart while helping to care for one of our youngest customers in such a sweet, fun way.”
