CHINA- On November 1, a woman fell into the Yanjiayan Reservoir in Chongqing City, Sichuan Province while washing her son’s clothes. Her son tried to rescue her, but both of them drowned.

According to the Chongqing Morning News, Li, 48 years old, went to the Tanjiayan Reservoir to wash her son’s clothes after he came back from working in Guangzhou City. The stones nearby the reservoir were wet and slippery as it had rained for the past few days. The woman slipped on the rocks and fell into the 3-meter deep reservoir.

Upon hearing his mother’s cries for help, her 22-year-old son Chen, who did not know how to swim, hesitated for a moment, then took off his shoes and jumped into the water. He struggled towards his mother, going under several times along the way..

A few moments later, Chen grasped his mother with his right hand, but the current separated them again. Finally, they clung tightly to each other, but a whirlpool suddenly drew them down into the water.

Their bodies were found at about 3:00 p.m. by the police and some locals. People cried upon seeing mother and son still tightly embracing each other.
