The gradual arrival of the internet along with the growing adoption of social media business as you know it changed forever. If you have a business and a website generating more leads will pay off by having an effective social media marketing mission. According to a new infographic published on Visual.ly Sept. 30, 2014 explains how businesses can take the enormous advantage by joining these social media channels.

As it turns out social media engagement is at an all-time high and a way of life nowadays. For example, in the United States social networking is the top online activity conducted by Americans and on average they spend 37 minutes per day on social platforms. This means not only are they engaging online, but quite possibly looking for potential products or services.

What is the adoption rate by social of brands on social media? According to the visual graphic the numbers are quite high and involve the following social networking sites:

  • Facebook brand adoption rate at 99 percent
  • Twitter brand adoption rate at 97 percent
  • Google Plus brand adoption rate at 70 percent
  • Pinterest brand adoption rate at 69 percent
  • Instagram brand adoption rate at 59 percent

Looking at these numbers it is obvious businesses are creating accounts to target their customers and 8 out of 10 social media businesses (SMBs) utilize these communications channels to drive growth. In addition, SMBs said they have attracted new customers by using social networks.

Business 2 business marketers use social media to the following: increase brand exposure, increase web traffic and to gain market insights on user behavior.

Noteworthy stats by social network and metrics

A lot has changed and continues to evolve in the social networking arena. Nevertheless, according to a GetResponse blog post the youngest platform and visual discovery tool-Pinterest-surpassed Twitter for popularity. However, Twitter has a higher frequency use than Pinterest.

Elsewhere Pinterest has managed to take some of the thunder away from Facebook. It succeeded by overtaking the leading social network in United Kingdom referral revenue. Specifically in the last quarter of 2013 Pinterest reached a milestone when it increased its revenue per visit (RPV) of 50 percent.

Below is an additional list of vital metrics to consider for your SMB:

  • Brands on Facebook utilize 75 percent of photos posted for their efforts
  • Exactly 67 percent of users on Twitter are more likely to purchase from a brand they follow
  • About 83.8 percent of luxury brands have an account on Pinterest
  • 90 percent of US online specialty retailers use Pinterest
  • 41 percent of brands post one or more photos weekly on their Instagram account

The takeaway from all of this is simply social media is here to stay. Your business will see great benefits by targeting customers more accurately using analytics software, but remember to keep your mission clear on these channels. Before customers less of a say about a brand yet today the toughest challenge is getting users on these networks to buy a product from you. Make good use of your time, but do not wait too long because the technology changes rapidly from one quarter to the next.
