Actor Wesley Snipes was released from prison after he was sentenced for failing to file his federal income tax returns, according to reports on Friday. He is now under house arrest.
TMZ reported that Snipes was released earlier this week and was transferred to the New York Community Corrections Office.
He will be under home confinement until mid-July.
Snipes, 50, was sentenced on Dec. 9, 2010, for failing to file his taxes. He spent the past two and a half years at the McKean Federal Correctional Institution in Pennsylvania.
He was convicted of three misdemeanor counts back in 2008 for failing to file his tax returns between 1999 and 2001. During that three-year span, Snipes bilked the government out of $7 million, according to the New York Daily News.
He was acquitted on felony tax fraud and conspiracy charges.
In June 2011, the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear Snipes’s appeal. He argued that his sentence was too harsh for a misdemeanor conviction, reported CNN.
