Smashing Pumpkins Returning to NZ

The Smashing Pumpkins, one of the biggest bands of the 1990s, will be playing at the Auckland Town Hall on Oct. 19, following a five show tour in Australia.

The fresh line-up includes vocalist Billy Corgan from the original band along with drummer Mike Byrne, bassist Nicole Fiorentino and guitarist Jeff Shroeder. Tickets are on general sale from today.

The American band last played in New Zealand in 2008 with Queens of the Stone Age.

The Smashing Pumpkins have sold over 30 million albums worldwide since forming in 1988. They have consisted of different band line-ups over the years, with the one playing in Auckland having only one original member, lead singer and guitarist Billy Corgan.

Their two most popular and critically acclaimed albums, ‘Siamese Dream’ (1993) and ‘Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness’ (1995) cemented the band's place music history. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) put their total album sales at 18.75 million in the United States.

Meanwhile, acts for Auckland's Big Day Out 2011 in January have been announced, it will be healined by Tool along with, Iggy and the Stooges, Deftones, Shihad, and many more.
