Washington Redskins v New York Giants

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ—The Washington Redskins (5-9) scored 10 points off three turnovers in beating the New York Giants (7-7) 23–10 Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium. The three giveaways by the G-Men were all credited to quarterback Eli Manning, though not all were completely his fault.

Manning finished 23/40 passing for 257 yards, three interceptions, and no touchdown passes for a QB rating on the day of 45.5—far and away the worst statistical performance of the season for the league’s seventh-best passer, coming into the contest. However, his final pick seemed to be a miscommunication with receiver Hakeem Nicks while another was off a tipped pass.

Nicks led the team with five catches and 73 yards receiving, but dropped a sure touchdown pass in the opening quarter.

That same quarter is one the Giants would like to forget.

Despite forcing two turnovers, both off interceptions, the Giants offense was unable to capitalize at all. Offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride’s crew totaled just 29 yards and one first down while punting on all three of their first-quarter drives. Quarterback Eli Manning missed on all six of his first quarter passes.

After back-to-back touchdown drives put the Redskins up 17–0 midway through the second quarter, the offense woke up in time for a field goal just before halftime.

The second half featured four frustrating New York drives that stalled inside the red zone. Only the final one resulted in any points, though the game was well out of hand when running back Ahmad Bradshaw ran it in from three yards out to make it 23–10 with 33 seconds remaining.

Bradshaw finished with a team-high 58 yards on just 10 carries.

The loss puts the G-Men a game behind first-place Dallas in the NFC East with just two games left, though the final one is against those same Cowboys.
