[xtypo_dropcap]A[/xtypo_dropcap] meat cleaver-wielding man broke into a kindergarten in China’s Shaanxi Province on May 12, killing nine and injuring 11 before returning home to commit suicide.

“The Kindergarten teacher and the teacher’s mother were killed,” a villager, surnamed Wu, told The Epoch Times.

“Several small children were killed, and the murderer committed suicide. He just used a kitchen knife to kill people. Those who were injured are being treated in the hospital.”

The personal account complemented announcements by Chinese state media, which said a Linchang Village man killed seven children and two adults, and injured another 11 kids before committing suicide at home.

It was the sixth school killing in China in less than two months.

Wu said that by 8 a.m., most of the children arrived at the kindergarten. Three of the children had not shown up yet, so the door was open. That is when the murderer went in and locked the door.

Located in Linchang Village, Nanzheng County, in China’s northwestern Province of Shaanxi, the small kindergarten is a privately-run provision with 23 children. No security guard was stationed at the school.

Following the murders, villagers rushed to save the children and called the police.

“About 50 to 60 police cars and village leaders’ cars arrived at around 9 a.m. [Wednesday] and blocked the roads in the village. Of course, they came too late. But the police cars are still on the street. They blocked the streets,” Wu said.

The surviving children were sent to a hospital.

The murderer had already committed suicide when the police arrived. According to Wu, the murderer’s home was about 50 meters away from the kindergarten. His family live a reasonably good life, making a moderate income from selling saplings.

The killer’s son is in college, and he had a mother and an adopted child, according to Wu.

“He was a nice guy whenever we met. I didn’t believe it when someone told me he had killed people. Perhaps it has something to do with the rent and vacating a rental property? It is still unclear, so I dare not say anything. But why else would he kill small children?” said Wu.

The Epoch Times was unable to reach family members of the children at the time of writing.

One Chinese blogger wrote that the murderer had rented his property to the kindergarten, and that he went on a killing spree because the kindergarten had refused to move out from his property.
