Six College Football Bowl Games on Monday

Fans of college football will have plenty to choose from on Monday with six offerings from coast to coast. The fun kicks off at noon as record-setting quarterback Case Keenum leads Houston against Penn State in Dallas in the Ticket City Bowl. Houston hopes to show the world their 12-1 record was not a fluke and can stand tough competition. Penn State hopes to end their season on a high note after a tumultuous year in which legendary coach Joe Paterno was dismissed. At 1 p.m., three teams from the Big Ten take on three teams from the SEC, all in Florida. Michigan State will battle Georgia in the Outback Bowl in Tampa. Both 10-3 teams look to erase the bad taste of end-of-season losses. The newest member of the Big Ten, Nebraska, faces South Carolina in Orlando in the Capital One Bowl. The Gamecocks look to extend their winning streak to four games this season. Nebraska looks to add another victory against Steve Spurrier. The last time they played the “Old Ball Coach” the Huskers beat his Florida team 62-24 for the National Title. Ohio State will face Florida in the Taxslayer.com Gator Bowl. Both 6-6 teams are looking keep their record above .500. Urban Myer, who was hired by the Buckeyes last month will not coach against his former team. Luke Fickell will finish out the year he started. The Granddaddy of Them All, the Rose Bowl will kick off at 5 p.m., as Wisconsin will take on Oregon in Pasadena. Wisconsin appeared to be in contention for the national title, but mid-season, back-to-back losses derailed those hopes. A redemption victory over Michigan State for the Big Ten title got them into the Rose Bowl. Oregon opened their season with a loss to LSU, but then won nine straight and also appeared to be in title contention. But a late season loss to unranked USC dropped them from championship conversations. Their victory against UCLA in the inaugural Pac-12 championship game sealed their Rose Bowl invitation. The Tostitos Fiesta Bowl kicks off at 8:30 p.m., with senior quarterback Andrew Luck leading Stanford against Oklahoma State. Both teams were ranked in the top five for the majority of the season, however both suffered late-season losses. Stanford lost 53-30 to Oregon, who was ranked No. 5 at the time, with only two games left in the season. Oklahoma State was dealing with an in-school trajedy when they lost at unranked Iowa State, 37-31 in double overtime. The Cowboys felt the BCS should have overlooked their one loss and put them in the championship game against LSU, however, their pleas were ignored.
