“The X Factor” boss, Simon Cowell says Cheryl Cole is a better judge for being away from the show for a couple of years. Cole will be joining former Spice Girls Mel B on the judge panel in the upcoming season of the reality competition show that premieres this coming Saturday.

“I wasn’t sure how they were going to get on well, and you never know until the first day,” Cowell said.

“But honestly, from the moment we sat down, they were comfortable, I was comfortable, they were very very focused on the talent. I think they’re really good judges, they’ve actually gotten better, certainly with Cheryl,” he said. “[She] knows what she’s talking about, knows what she’s looking for, so for me it was a help.”

Cole agreed that she’s changed a lot since her first appearance on the show.

“I’ve grown up. I was 24 when I first did the ‘The X Factor’ series, and I’m 31 now, just turned this year. So I’ve grown, it’s normal progression,” Cole said.

“I feel like I’ve never been away from [Simon Cowell]. Like an annoying nut that’s been buzzing around you your whole holiday, like that feeling,” she said.

Cole is looking for candidates who are fun, fresh, and talented.

The show’s host, Dermot O'Leary is happy to have Cole back on the show.

“She’s a beautiful person inside and out, but as a judge she’s insightful, she’s empathetic, she’s intelligent,” he said.

Louis Walsh, “The X Factor” judge agreed with Cowell that Cole  and Mel B will work together well. “I don’t know if we’ve ever had two girls on the show before that actually really works, like genuinely works, on screen and off screen,” he said.
