The best hitters at their respective positions were honored by Major League Baseball with the Silver Slugger Awards Wednesday night. The annual selections are voted on by the coaches and managers. This year’s winners included nine first-time selections.

The Red Sox led all teams with three Silver Sluggers including (DH) David Ortiz who won for the fifth time—tied for most among this year’s honorees with Atlanta’s catcher Brian McCann.

Of the 18 players who collected the award five of them—Adrian Beltre, Jacoby Ellsbury, Troy Tulowitzki, Brandon Phillips, and Matt Kemp—also won Gold Glove Awards.
