NEW YORK—Shots were fired inside New York City’s Bronx Lebanon hospital on Friday, police said, and local media reported that there was a shooter in the building.

Few other details were immediately available about the incident.

According to the Daily News, the shooter was carrying a rifle-style gun. Shots were fired at the 16th floor of the hospital. Sources told the paper it was a 35-year-old former employee wearing a white lab coat. “Active shooting in Bronx Leb. Two confirmed shot. Man dressed all in black. Smoke from the 16th floor,” the NYPD Special Operations Division posted to Twitter. “Blood trail leading from second to eighth floor.”

Police are still searching the premises.

Local reports say that the suspect is down.

The local ABC affiliate reported that two people had been shot, but added there was no word on their condition.
