At least one person is dead after shootout just outside Western Hills Mall in Fairfield, Alabama, on Thursday, Feb. 15, it was reported.

A manhunt is underway around an area near Interstate 59 near the Birmingham-Southern College campus.

The manager of the Western Hills Mall was identified as the victim in the shooting, AL.com reported.

The mall manager walked outside to investigate a shootout. He was shot and killed.

“It’s too much,” a witness told AL.com. “It was so scary. There were too many shots to count. This is completely unsafe.”

In the incident, two groups got into a shootout outside the mall, Fairfield Police Chief Nick Dyer confirmed.

The shooting occurred in the mall’s food court area, which led to a chase from the mall that ended on Interstate 59 North, WIAT-TV reported.

An innocent bystander inside a vehicle at the Arkadelphia Exit was also hit by gunfire, the report said.

Two suspects were taken into custody, but there are more suspects “at large,” police said, WVTM13 reported.

Bush Academy is on lockdown “until further notice,” police told the station.
