Sherrie Rhoades has been identified by police as the female suspect who allegedly shot five people and stabbed another in Alturas, California on Thursday night.

Rhoades, 44, opened fire at an American Indian tribal headquarters during an eviction meeting, police said.

She shot the five people, killing four, and when she ran out of ammunition she grabbed a knife and stabbed the sixth.

A witness was able to escape, covered with blood, and run to the police station.

Police arrived and arrested Rhoades, who was running out of the building with the knife in her hand.

Rhoades is a former tribal leader, reported KRCR-TV.

She and her son were facing eviction.

The two surviving victims are at a hospital.
