MINNEAPOLIS—Orpheum Theatre operations manager and technical director, Dave Marietta, said the performance of Shen Yun Performing Arts, currently performing at the historical Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis, was “top notch.” He was among the audience at the Sunday matinee performance, March 11.

Mr. Marietta said the performance was great, and his five-year-old Chinese granddaughter, who had also seen Shen Yun, was “quite excited about it also.”

With 45 years of experience in the field of theater, Mr. Marietta commented that the Shen Yun Orchestra was “incredibly good” and that he enjoyed the experience of working with the company. “I really loved the orchestra music, and the people were all nice. It was fun to work with everybody.”

New York-based Shen Yun, the world’s leading classical Chinese dance and music company, has as its mission the revival of China’s authentic, divinely inspired culture, “which the Chinese Communist Party has for decades tried to destroy: a tradition of spiritual self-discipline and veneration for the divine,” says the company.

In two and a half hours, in a collection of short pieces, the audience travels from the Himalayas to tropical lake-filled regions; from the legends of the culture’s creation over 5,000 years ago through to the story of Falun Dafa in China today.

“I think it is really great to watch history that could be forgotten brought back to the surface so that everybody can see,” Mr. Marietta said. “China has one of the richest histories in the world and it is really sad to see that suppressed.”

New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts has three touring companies that perform simultaneously around the world. Shen Yun Performing Arts Touring Company will next perform at Clowes Memorial Hall of Butler University in Indianapolis for two performances, March 13 and 14.
