KNOXVILLE, Tenn.— Mr. Donny Young and his wife, Mrs. Valeria Young enjoyed Shen Yun Performing Arts together at the Tennessee Theatre on Feb. 12.
Mr. Young found deep meaning in the lyrics sung by the Shen Yun vocal soloists, which use bel canto vocal technique while singing Chinese lyrics.
“The music—if you’re paying attention to the lyrics—the lyrics were very inspirational,” he said.
Completely original compositions, Shen Yun’s lyrics brim with “philosophical reflection about human life and deep layers of meaning,” according to the company’s website.
Mr. Young is an attorney with a private practice in Knoxville, and Mrs. Young is a Spanish interpreter.
“Shen Yun weaves a wondrous tapestry of heavenly realms, ancient legends and heroic modern-day epics,” according to the company’s website.
“Wonderful,” Mr. Young said. He found Shen Yun’s handmade costumes colors stunning, and he was moved by the emcees’ introductions to each piece.
The Shen Yun Orchestra blends Eastern instruments like the pipa, erhu, and zither, with a full Western orchestra. It delighted Mr. and Mrs. Young.
According to Shen Yun’s website, “The ensemble at once expresses both the grandeur of a Western orchestra and the distinct sensibilities of China’s 5,000-year-old civilization.”
Mr. Young said that the Shen Yun dancers were outstanding.
“You can tell they put a lot of work into what they do,” he said impressed by the dancers unity. “Very coordinated,” he said. “We enjoyed it very much.”
Mr. Young appreciates the Shen Yun corps’ dedication. “You can tell they work very hard at their craft,” he said.
“Amazing work,” Mrs. Young said.
Mrs. Young loved Shen Yun. Every year, Shen Yun unveils an entirely new, all-original program. Mrs. Young said she is already looking forward to Shen Yun’s future world tours. She said that she is going to see Shen Yun again.
