SYDNEY—Shen Yun delighted audience member Cindy Wong and her two daughters on the opening night of the Sydney leg of Shen Yun’s Australian tour.
Ms. Wong is no stranger to Shen Yun, The world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company. “I come to see Shen Yun every year. This is already my sixth time attending the show,” she said.
Ms. Wong is a small business owner from Beijing in China and feels it is important to keep her children educated about their own rich heritage.
“I want my children to have a better understanding of their background, Chinese classical dancing as well as many ancient historical stories. They’re very interesting; my children all find them very interesting. I really enjoy it, really enjoy it. My children are the same. If Sydney had a center for teaching Chinese classical dance, I would send them there,” she said.
According to Shen Yun’s website, classical Chinese dance has a long history of thousands of years, and while soaking up profound wisdom from every era and dynasty, it has become a complete system of dance embodying traditional aesthetic principles.
Having lived in China, Ms. Wong noticed an obvious difference between the Shen Yun Performing Arts’ company and other dance troupes that come from mainland China.
“Often there are performances from mainland China that come here, but Shen Yun is completely different. Shen Yun, so much of it is traditional. The troupes from mainland China, their dance, sometimes it seems they’re not dancing from a pure place in their hearts. Shen Yun is very, very good. I feel it’s so very good. I can’t use language to express my feelings to any greater extent.”
