FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.—For Felicia Castro, a vice president with Bank of America Merchant Services, the superb dances, colors, music, and breathtaking scenes in Shen Yun Performing Arts created more than just a beautiful show on stage.

“It was like you were in your seats, but you were down there on the stage with them as they went through the entire performance,” said Ms. Castro, who watched the show on Saturday afternoon.

“It was really beautiful to watch.”

Based in New York, Shen Yun has a mission to revive 5,000 years of divinely inspired Chinese culture. The classical Chinese dance and music company tours the globe each year, presenting a collection of short pieces that take the audiences to different regions and time periods in China.

“I thought the colors were very vibrant, and it really gave you an inside look into the Chinese culture,” Ms. Castro said. “It took you through the entire 5,000 years.”

The show was so enjoyable that she wants to go and watch Shen Yun performers “wherever they are,” Ms. Castro said. “Can’t wait for them to come back.”

Coming to the show was the idea of Ms. Castro’s mother-in-law, Maria Santana. The show was a birthday gift for Ms. Santana, whose birthday was on Friday.

Ms. Santana said the performance was very good, and the dancers were “very unreal—the things that they do.”

According to the Shen Yun website, classical Chinese dance is an art form thousands of years old: “Soaking up profound wisdom from every era and dynasty, it has become a complete system of dance embodying traditional aesthetic principles.”

Ms. Santana said she also enjoyed the spiritual aspect of the show. “Very spiritual, I like it very much,” she said.
