A female swimmer in northeast Brazil died earlier this week after a shark bit her just before lifeguards pulled up on a watercraft to rescue her.
Bruni Gobbi, 18, was with a cousin swimming in the ocean near the Brazilian city of Recife, according to CNN, which cited the local government.
The lifeguards did save her and she was transported to an area hospital but she died later that night, according to Globo TV.
“The rescuers came in a matter of five minutes, but to us it felt like five years,” Gobbi’s cousin, Daniele Gobbi, told Globo TV.
She was the first woman to die from a shark attack in the state of Pernambuco since record-keeping began in 1992, according to O Globo.
