Shaquan Duley, a 29-year-old mother from Orangeburg, South Carolina, confessed to murder this Tuesday for killing her two toddler sons.
This Monday, Duley allegedly killed the two boys in a motel room after which she attempted to avoid prosecution by making the deaths look like an accident. According to the Associated Press, Duley allegedly put the bodies in her car and rolled it into a river 10 miles away.
Soon after the scene caught a motorist’s attention, police were informed, and the bodies of the boys were found. Upon further investigation, police deputies became suspicious that Duley wasn’t divulging all the details of what had happened. She had initially only been charged with leaving the scene of an accident, but the scene showed no signs of the car having been in one.
Citing the pressures of parenthood and from her own mother, Duley admitted to a female deputy on Tuesday that she had killed her children, according to AP.
“I think she was fed up with her mother telling her she couldn’t take care of the children, or she wasn’t taking care of the children and just wanted to be free,” said Orangeburg County Sheriff Larry Williams at a press conference.
Duley is expected to appear for a hearing on Wednesday morning. Funeral services for the toddlers are scheduled to be held this Friday at St. Paul Baptist Church in Orangeburg.
