December 19 marks the second week since the Dongzhou Town massacre. Fourteen continuous days of arm-twisting blockades and searching for and arresting of “illegal elements” have exhausted the locals mentally and physically.
On December 18, the father of deceased resident Jiang Guangge was coerced into signing a government document admitting that his son had died from “blowing himself up.” Meanwhile, Wei Jin’s mother has been kneeling by the roadside since her son’s death, crying in grief and appealing for justice. In addition, it is reported that the arrested villagers suffer severe torture at the hands of the authorities.
On the same day, construction resumed on the Shanwei power plant, causing the women of the village to surround and blockade the plant in protest.
A Mother Wants Justice for Her Son
The young man in the photograph is Wei Jin, who lost his life the night of the December 6 Dongzhou massacre. His mother still makes a daily trek to a road near the village and kneels in protest for her son. “My son death is an injustice; what crime has he committed?” She has cried so hard that she is drained of strength and sits exhausted on the road.
Every day the government has quickly sent public security officials and police to haul the mother back home. Around 10:30 a.m. on December 19, while officials were removing the lady, they encountered resistance from her family members. Both sides refused to compromise. The number of onlookers grew so large that the reporter was able to take this picture while amid the crowd. (Note: Dongzhou is under official news blockade, and reporters risk their lives to take photos and publish stories.)
Wei Jin was a 31-year-old resident of Dongzhou. During the December 6 police attack, Wei Jin was hit by a hail of bullets. According to villagers, when his family members first saw his body, it was a relatively intact corpse. However, two days later, when the family was preparing to take Wei Jin’s body home for burial, they found the corpse mutilated beyond recognition and made to look like he had died from an explosion. Two explosives were also placed next to the body. Confronted with this horrendous sight, some family members fainted and had to been sent to the hospital for treatment.
Wei Jin’s elder brother said, “He got shot in the foot once, then twice more and was killed.”
Father Signs to Admit Son Died from “Blowing Himself Up”
After many days of doing ideological work on Jiang Guangge’s father, the official propaganda team compelled the father to sign a document admitting that his son died from his own mishandling explosive device.
According to villagers’ recollections, during the December 6 incident, Jiang Guangge was the first to be shot and was immediately sent to the hospital by surrounding villagers. Despite doctor’s efforts to save him, he still died. The family secretly took his corpse home; his body was at that time the only recovered corpse known to the villagers. Other corpses later sent to the hospital were delivered to the crematorium by officials and were all destroyed to eliminate evidence.
Before his death, Jiang Guangge did deliveries on a tricycle in the local area and was the family’s main source of income. After this innocent man was killed by the authorities, the family now consists of three elderly people and three children with no source of income.
Jiang Guangge’s uncle, Jiang Guanggui, was abducted by authorities while visiting Jiang Guangge’s widow.
December 6 Bloodstains Not Yet Dry, But the Power Plant Resumes Construction
Villagers told the Epoch Times reporter that on December 18, the cause of the Dongzhou massacre and the direct source of the tragedy—the Dongzhou power plant—restarted construction works, causing extreme discontent amongst the villagers. The women of Dongzhou Town disregarded the strict rules in place in the village and went to blockade the power plant.
The villagers claimed, “This is intolerable! People have died and the wounded still have not been completely taken care of. How dare the plant start construction again! Is there still a government? There is simply no law in the land. These corrupt officials deceive the public. Do they even acknowledge the existence of the central authorities?”
Arrested Villagers Suffer Severe Torture
An insider from the local public security organization disclosed that in order to obtain oral confessions for guilty pleas, arrested villagers were tortured to the point where their bodies were so badly disfigured that they could not be recognized. Through relatives, villagers also heard similar reports.
Villagers told the reporter, “The government uses different means to frighten the villagers so they do not dare to speak. They stopped using armed suppression, and now employ psychological suppression!” According to information from the villagers, the Shanwei government published a list of 126 “troublemakers” throughout the village in order to carry out arrests or issue warrants for arrests.
The villagers repeatedly said to the reporter, “Come have a look and ask the government why it does not dare to let reporters enter the village to photograph and interview if all of this has really been taken care of? Ask the government that.”
The reporter called the Guangdong provincial police station, but was not put through. An employee of the Shanwei government, when asked, claimed to be unsure of the facts of the matter and refused to respond.
