Shank Racing Working on IndyCar Program as Season Opener Approaches

Michael Shank Racing has proven itself in sports car racing—taking first and third at the 2012 Rolex 24 at Daytona, defeating many bigger-budgeted teams.

MSR is a new face in IndyCar, however, and the team is finding the going slow there.

First, there was a delay picking up the team’s new 2012 Dallara DW12-Honda IndyCar. Now, drivers and sponsors are proving elusive. Meanwhile, most teams are already testing and preparing for the season opener on March 25 on the streets of St. Petersburg, Fla.

The difficulties don’t faze team owner Michael Shank though. “My main goal is to make this thing work, and if that means working with a technical partner to make it happen or just focusing on particular races, then so be it,” Shank said on the team website.

“There are folks out there testing right now; that is the best scenario to be in. We’ve got a little bit bigger hill to climb at the moment, but we are not giving up by any stretch.”
