A bomb placed in a supermarket locker exploded yesterday in Shanghai, according to Chinese state-run media.

The explosion occurred in a lower-income suburb, the Jiading District, in northwestern Shanghai, Reuters reported.

According to ifeng.com, a Hong-Kong based Chinese media, the supermarket, Shanghai R-T Mart, received anonymous calls notifying them of the bomb so they evacuated customers and staff.

The Shanghai government-run media added that, due to the evacuations, there were no casualties.

A suspect was apprehended by the police after three hours of investigation, ifeng.com reported. After appearing in court, the accused reportedly admitted to committing the crime.

Although no motive was reported surrounding this bombing, protests against the Chinese regime’s human rights abuses, corruption and media control are frequent in China.

Late last May the local government offices in Fuzhou city, Jiangxi province were bombed in an apparent suicide bombing by Fuzhou native Qian Mingqi. He had been evicted from his home and had had no success in seeking compensation from local authorities.
