A row of stores in Jackson Heights, Queens, were destroyed during a four-alarm blaze around 10 a.m. on Sunday. Seven storefronts, including a beauty supply store, a dry cleaner, a furniture store, a liquor store, and a shoemaker were destroyed by the fire, according to the Associated Press report. The fire also prompted the evacuation of an apartment building near the stores.
Approximately 200 firefighters were called in, taking around three hours to contain the fire. Several firefighters suffered minor injuries. There were no other reports of injuries.
According to one fire department official, the fire started at the furniture store, with the cause under investigation.
