A military service member was discovered dead in the Pentagon parking lot on Tuesday, according to the Department of Defense (DOD).

DOD press secretary Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder said in a statement Pentagon officials were alerted on Tuesday afternoon.

“At approximately 3:30 p.m. EDT today the Pentagon Operations Center received a call requesting a welfare check on a military service member,” Ryder said.

According to Ryder, upon arriving at the North Parking area, Pentagon police officers found the individual in their vehicle.

“Arlington County Emergency Medical Services responded and confirmed the individual was deceased,“ Ryder said. ”An investigation is ongoing. We have no further details to announce while the investigation is ongoing.”
