LONDON—Senior partner at a property investment consultants, Jonathan Wallach, described Shen Yun Performing Arts as “an absolute spectacle, an awesome, amazing performance. It is a wonderful show to watch, very enjoyable and entertaining.”

Shen Yun’s live orchestra, uniquely combines both western and classical Chinese instruments, accompanying Shen Yun’s hallmark performances of classical Chinese dance.

“The orchestra, and the music are wonderful, and very uplifting,” said Mr Wallach.

He also said that the themes of the performances were uplifting. “It is about triumph over adversity and struggle”

Mr Wallach went to see Shen Yun at the Barbican Centre on Thursday night, together with his wife, Deborah, who was equally stunned by the performance.

She said the beauty and elegance and grace of the performances had really touched her, alongside the sincerity and authenticity of the performances. “The performers believe in what they are doing and they are connecting with the culture – and that’s what touched me.”

New York based Shen Yun’s mission is to revive the divinely inspired 5,000 year old culture of China that was almost destroyed in recent decades.

Shen Yun performances also include Chinese ethnic and folk dances – those dance forms passed down among the many minority ethnic groups within China, such as the Mongolians.

Mrs Wallach was enchanted with Mongolian Bowl Dance, which starts with Mongolian women emerging from their tents balancing bowls on their heads in a dance of welcome.

“I thought that was spectacular. I thought the bowls were initially stuck to their heads, but then I realised later of course they weren’t. The grace with which they performed that was amazing.”

She said there was a spiritual message, particularly from the solo performances of soprano and tenor. “Behind it the message was that people of good will triumph, that it’s what’s in your heart that matters. That comes through in the performances -- in the authenticity of the performances.

“I think that the concept of Shen Yun is probably very spiritual and wants to touch a wider audience -- not just those who understand Asian culture,” she said.
