Self-serve baggage tagging coming to Canadian airports

Canada, National, Self-serve baggage tagging coming to Canadian airports
|Updated:
TORONTO—Air passengers across Canada will be able to start tagging their own bags after a successful pilot project showed self-serve kiosks used for air tickets can also be used to print baggage labels.

The new technology will let passengers avoid lines waiting for attendants to label their checked bags, says a statement from Transport Canada.

Transport Minister John Baird said this is the first time the approach has been used in North America and it will not compromise airport security.

“It also helps passengers reduce the time they spend checking in, and allows airports and airlines to use their resources more efficiently,” he said in a statement.

The new system will be permitted at all Canadian airports as of July 1 and airlines already plan to implement the service in Winnipeg, Edmonton, Ottawa, and Halifax international airports.
