Penny Chenery, the breeder for the legendary horse, experienced many ups and downs in training Secretariat. Now 88 and living in Colorado, Chenery spoke to the Boulder Daily about the upcoming big-screen release.
"I've seen it twice already, and I liked it very much," Chenery told the newspaper. "They spent a lot of time being accurate, but it's a Disney movie, so it has a certain formula, and I had to accept those constraints."
Chenery is portrayed by actress Diane Lane, who regards herself as a horse lover. The real-life Chenery also appears in the film as an extra.
According to The Associated Press, Chenery and 100 friends and family saw the movie at a private screening in Boulder several weeks ago.
