[xtypo_dropcap]C[/xtypo_dropcap]onstruction progress of the Second Avenue subway line is on schedule, according to local lawmakers, who released a second annual report card on the progress of the line over the weekend. This year the project got a “B,” up from last year’s grade of “B-.”
“This is a great project and it’s been a vital source of good-paying jobs in the worst economic environment we’ve seen since the Great Depression,” said Rep. Carolyn Maloney in a statement.
Maloney added that lawmakers are going to continue pushing the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to keep making progress. The subway line needs to be open by its deadline date of 2016, she added.
“The Second Avenue subway project is like a Godzilla-sized caterpillar,” said Assemblyman Micah Kellner. “One day it will bloom into something wonderful, but meanwhile it seems to be devouring everything in its path. I hope this report spurs the MTA to take more effective steps to ease the pain for local businesses and residents.”
