The Seattle ad for an Airbus plane featured a regrettable error.
The ad in the Seattle Times calls for state lawmakers to approve a range of transportation and infrastructure improvements to help secure Boeing’s 777x, which would generate thousands of jobs for the area.
“The 777x represents the next 100 years of aerospace technology, including cutting edge manufacturing skills and expertise, from advanced composite wings to just-in-time logistics,” it says. “It also represents the next generation of family-wage jobs in a wide middle path of careers–from machinists to engineers and beond.”
The ad was created by the Washington Aerospace Partnership, a group of business, labor, and government groups that promote the industry. Boeing offered to make the 777x in Washington in exchange for tax breaks and a contract extension with its largest union, but the union–the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers District 751–voted down the deal last week.
The big error in the ad was at the top, where an A320 from Airbus, Boeing’s rival, was pictured.
“It’s an embarrassing, cringe-worthy error,” Terri Hiroshima, a spokeswoman for the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, which placed the ad for the partnership, told the Seattle Times.
