White House press secretary Sean Spicer resigned on Friday, July 21, according to unnamed sources who spoke to the New York Times and The Associated Press.

Spicer was named as the press secretary to Donald Trump on Dec. 22, 2016. He strongly criticized the press in his first public appearance, pointing out bias and intentional falsehoods. That set up for a tense relationship with the press corps. leading up to Spicer prohibiting cameras during White House press briefings.

Prior to his role with the Trump White House, Spicer served as the communications director of the Republican National Committee.
