DENVER—A Shen Yun Performing Arts’ performance at the Temple Buell Theatre left a sculptor impressed and surprised.
Mr. Tim Gates attended an afternoon showing of Shen Yun Performing Arts International Company on Feb. 24.
Mr. Gates said he was impressed by the skill of the dancers and the choreography.
Every year, Shen Yun’s three companies tour the world on a mission to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization. Shen Yun strives to demonstrate the aesthetic beauty and profound inner meaning of this heritage through classical Chinese dance, and Chinese folk and ethnic dance.
Another distinct feature of the Shen Yun performance is the animated backdrop, something Mr. Gates said he really appreciated.
“I love that the way the dancers would transition into the backdrop and vice versa, materialize in the background and then appear on stage,” Mr. Gates said.
The backdrop synchronizes various aspects of the performance, like the characters, colors of the costumes, the dances, and the story.
For example, a dance called Sand Monk is Blessed, derived from the classical Chinese novel Journey to the West makes such excellent use of the backdrop that many audience members are left surprised.
