A viral post that’s titled, “Lovers Got Caught and Watch the Punishment They Got” is a scam.
“Lovers Got Caught and Watch the Punishment They Got ... This is really so shocking,” it reads.
The post also purports to have video footage, but it’s only designed to get users to click on it.
When one clicks on the post, they’re taken to a website designed to look like Facebook. After that, the website prompts users to share the content before accessing the nonexistent video.
“It is this fake Facebook web page that the scammers want you to ‘like’ or share, which will make it popular. Once the page is popular, these scammers can sell it to online marketers or other scammers. They will also make money from the surveys that are completed by gullible Facebook users who were tricked into completing them,” reads a posting from Online Threat Alerts, a security website.
If you have “liked” or shared the website or the Facebook post, it is recommended to delete it from your wall and “unlike” it.
Facebook has some advice about scam clickjacking posts.
“Think before you click. Never click suspicious links, even if they come from a friend or a company you know. This includes links sent on Facebook (ex: in a chat or post) or in emails. If one of your friends clicks on spam they could accidentally send you that spam or tag you in a spammy post. You also shouldn’t download things (ex: a .exe file) if you aren’t sure what they are,” says Facebook on its website.
