An article from Clickhole with the title, “Embarrassing: The U.S. Is Ranked 182nd In The World Alphabetically,” is merely satire.

As crazy as it sounds, some people thought the article was legitimate. On social media websites, there was confusion. Clickhole is a satirical website--a parody of sites like BuzzFeed--and it’s owned by longtime satirical newspaper The Onion.

Here’s The Onion’s disclaimer: “The Onion is a satirical weekly publication published 52 times a year on Thursdays. The Onion is published by Onion, Inc. The contents of this material are © Copyright 2010 by Onion, Inc. and may not be reprinted or re-transmitted in whole or in part without the express written consent of the publisher. The Onion is not intended for readers under 18 years of age.”

It continues: “The Onion uses invented names in all its stories, except in cases where public figures are being satirized. Any other use of real names is accidental and coincidental.”

The Clickhole article reads, in part:

As Americans, we are lucky to live in a first-world country. We have an abundance of wealth and one of the highest standards of living anywhere in the world. That’s why it’s utterly stunning that the United States of America consistently ranks 182nd in the world alphabetically.

Simply put, it’s embarrassing. On a list of 195 countries, the United States is only ahead of 13, and we should be ashamed about that.
