Thousands of shoppers flocked to the Santa Monica Place shopping mall on Friday, Aug. 6 to get the most out of its grand opening day.

Santa Monica Place is a three-story, 524,000-square-foot mall located between Third Street Promenade and the Santa Monica Pier in Los Angeles, Calif. It was originally designed by noted architect Frank Gehry in 1980. It was reopened Friday after being closed for renovation in 2006.

With the renovation, Santa Monica has become a modern shopping destination for over 50 retailers and restaurants, including Hugo Boss, CB2, and Nike. Located on the Pacific coast, it sports an ocean view.

“Many of the world’s best retail brands are here, drawn by ... the rare opportunity to locate in the highly desirable community of Santa Monica,” said Arthur M. Coppola, Chairman and CEO of Macerich, in a press release.

The Disney store took the opportunity to promote its products with gift cards distributed to the its first 500 shoppers.
