A San Mateo County sheriff’s deputy will be honored on Sept. 6, for potentially saving the life of a woman whose boyfriend held her over the Caltrain tracks in Belmont as a train was coming, officials with the San Mateo County Transit District said.

Deputy Pedro Miqueo responded to a domestic violence call on May 31, at Caltrain’s Belmont station where an assailant was holding his girlfriend over the railroad tracks while a train was coming and in front of her 4-year-old son.

Miqueo arrested the assailant and connected the woman and her child with counselors at Community Overcoming Relationship Abuse. Miqueo also drove her to her child’s school when she was unable to do so and stayed in touch with her to provide further support.

CORA will honor Miqueo with an award at a meeting of the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board.
