San Antonio Soldier and Mistress Charged in Murder of Wife

A San Antonio-based solider and his mistress were arrested in connection to the murder of his wife more than a year ago, according to local reports.

Investigators obtained information linking Sgt. 1st Class Maliek Kearney, 31, and his girlfriend, Dolores Delgado to the 2015 murder of 24-year-old Karlyn Ramirez, who was employed by the National Security Agency with top-secret clearance.

Kearney and Delgado were taken into custody in Maryland on Oct. 6 and charged with interstate travel to commit domestic violence, reported the San Antonio News Express.

According to the single paragraph indictment, Kearney and Delgado traveled from South Carolina to Maryland last year with the intent to kill and injure Ramirez. The indictment doesn’t doesn’t say who shot her.

Kearney met Ramirez, who was an Army private first class, while stationed in South Korea and married in July 2015 after the birth of their daughter. The couple were stationed at different bases—Kearney in South Carolina and Ramirez in Maryland.

Ramirez’s body was found on Aug. 25 in her townhouse with the couple’s five-month-old daughter still beside her. The infant was unharmed and is now being raised by her maternal family.

In an interview with Crime Daily, Ramirez’s mother, Susan, and her sister, Roxanne, recalled a conversation they had with Karlyn the night before her body was found riddled with bullets. According to Roxanne, Karlyn said she felt uneasy.

“She said ‘I don’t know what is wrong. I don’t feel right. I don’t feel safe. Do you think my baby knows I love her?’” Roxanne said. “I am like, ‘Why are you talking like this? What happened?’ ‘I don’t know. I can’t tell you. I don’t know.’”

Susan added, “She told me she was having a panic attack, and I said ‘Karlyn, what’s wrong,’ and she said ‘I can’t discuss it. It’s nothing I can discuss with you. I automatically thought: work.”

Kearney has denied any involvement, according to his attorney.

Following Ramirez’s death, Kearney posted a photo of the couple to Facebook on Sept.1, where he captioned the image, “I’m so heartbroken but you will live on with me forever. I don’t want to say goodbye....still seems so unreal.”
