Samsung Electronics has sold more than three million of its Galaxy S smartphones in the U.S. since the phone launched in July, according to a Reuters report on Tuesday.
All in all, seven million of the Android OS-based phones were sold worldwide in the four-month time span.
“We’re in a situation where we wish we had more supply,” Chief Marketing Officer Paul Golden told Reuters.
RBC analyst Mark Sue said the phone sales were a “good number” but do not hold a candle to iPhone sales, reported Reuters. In the first three weeks after its release, the Apple iPhone 4 sold three million units.
The news comes as the South Korea-based electronics company first unveiled its Continuum phone, which will only use Verizon Wireless as a carrier, CNN reported.
A week ago, the San Francisco Chronicle and other reports noted that the Galaxy S overtook the iPhone as the top-selling smartphone in Japan, knocking it out of first place for the first time in 18 weeks.
