The Samsung Galaxy tablet 10.1 will ship nationwide tomorrow, June 17. The sleek and lightweight new Android-powered tablet is WiFi-enabled and sports numerous new features with a 10-inch high-definition screen supported by powerful hardware.

The Galaxy 10.1, running on Honeycomb, Google’s new Android 3.1 mobile operating system, and offers access to a marketplace of over 150,000 apps and run smoother and faster than previous Android versions.

The screen is a 1280x800 WXGA widescreen powered by a Dual Core Tegra 2 processor running at 1 Gigahertz per core with DDR2 memory running up to 1 Gigabyte. The Tegra 2 also incorporates a GeForce GPU designed by Nvidia to power games, images, and video.

Two cameras mount the tablet; a 2.0 megapixel camera for self-shots on the front side and a 3.0 megapixel camera with auto focus and flash on the back.

The 10.1 will have a 7000 milli Amp hour Lithium-Polymer battery that can last up to 9 hours of continuous usage.

Samsung, in a press release, yielded the tablet as the “World’s Thinnest Mobile Tablet”. The tablet’s thickness is less than a half-inch and weighs only 1.25 pounds.

The release follows Apple’s shipping of the iPad 2 in March, its rival and direct competitor. The iPad 2 feature similar utilities and is also powered by a 1 GHz dual-core processor. The primary difference comes in Apple’s operating system, the long ruling veteran of the tablet platform, the iOS.

The question now is whether or not Honeycomb can overcome its Apple counterpart.

The release tomorrow will come in 2 versions, a 16GB tablet and 32 GB tablet.
