A picture showing a fan of the New Orleans Saints helping a fan of the New York Giants stand for the national anthem before a game has gone viral since being snapped on Sunday, Sept. 30.
NOLA.com photographer Michael DeMocker took the picture prior to the Giants and Saints facing off in New Orleans.
“A Saints fans helps a disabled Giants fan sitting in front of him to stay standing during the National Anthem before the game on Sunday,” according to the caption.
The Saints fan appears to be applying some strength to help his fellow football fan stand; the disabled Giants fan is also leaning on the front railing that separates the stands from the field.
One Saints fan said the Saints fan in the picture is a well-known fan, Geordie B. “Very kind gesture. #classy,” the Twitter user said.
“I once went to a Cowboys Eagles game and ended up getting seated right next to an Eagles fan. My dad is disabled, had issues standing/sitting so throughout the course of the game, he helped lift my dad up so that he could stand whenever he needed to. Really awesome guy,” said one Twitter user.
“That’s what it’s all about. As a country we need to find this again ASAP when United this is the greatest country in the world remember we when galvanized after 9-11 I hope that happens again for my kids sake,” added another.
“This is the best and wish the players could take lesson from this!” added a Facebook user.
Some users believed the picture showed a stark contrast to those who have been kneeling or sitting during the anthem in recent years, including some NFL players.
“We stand for the flag as a show of honor and respect no one says you have to but it shows those who gave you the right to say what you do and be who you are that you respect the fact that they were willing to give up everything to support that right,” added another Facebook user.
“Yes I love it this is how us as people human beings should be like helping one another no matter what your differences is be kind and loving to one another and remember God loves us all so we as people should love each other I’m your sister as your my brother,” added another.
