Sage Kotsenburg won the slopestyle snowboarding competition at the 2014 Olympics at Sochi on Saturday.

Kotsenburg, the only American to advance to the finals, beat out favorites Canadian snowboarders Maxence Parrot and Mark McMorris with a score of 93.

McMorris got the bronze medal, while Ståle Sandbech of Norway got the silver medal.

Parrot, a gold medal favorite, ended in fifth after his final run got a lower score than expected.

It was the first time slopestyle was a competition at the Olympics, after being a part of the X Games for years.
