Yankees ace, CC Sabathia underwent surgery Thursday to remove a bone spur on his left elbow, according to a report on MLB’s website.
The surgery was performed by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala. The 32-year-old is expected to make a full recovery before the beginning of next season.
Sabathia went 15–6 with a 3.38 ERA in 28 starts for New York this past season but was on the disabled list in August with inflammation in the elbow. An MRI taken after the ALCS revealed the bone spur, though the club thinks he’s had it since 2008.
“You’re always concerned that, maybe, it’s more than you think it is,” Girardi said Wednesday.
“The start before that [both Baltimore starts] was pretty good. September was pretty good. That makes me feel like it’s something that we’re going to get through and we’re going to have him in spring training.”
