‘Ryse: Son of Rome’ Mars Chosen DLC is slated for a February 28 release date.
The add-on will be $8.99 through the Xbox Games Stores or as part of the game’s season pass, and will include new maps, a new character skin, and a brand new cooperative gameplay called Survival Mode.
There’s only one objective in this mode–battle alongside a fellow gladiator against endless waves of barbarians, with the only way to regain health is to quickly and brutally kill, but the longer you last the faster your health depletes.
Two of the new maps, Firestorm and Dockyard, are specifically for Survival Mode, while Courtyard has been optimized for the mode. Pyramid and Obelisk are for Arena Mode.
The new character skin available is the Legionary.
Justin Robey told xbox.com that Obelisk and Pyramid are some of the coolest maps yet.
“Pyramid involves actually defending the building of a pyramid in Egypt while Obelisk is about battling it out in an Egyptian-themed village while protecting a build site,” he said. “Pyramid is by far one of my favorites because you actually watch the pyramid get built. It’s a very different environment than what you have seen in ‘Ryse: Son of Rome.’ Pyramid and Obelisk definitely add to the variety we wanted to have in the Gladiator Mode.”
He elaborated on Survival Mode, saying that it completely changes the strategy.
“The premise itself is quite simple: you are bleeding out constantly, and the only way to regenerate health is to pull off executions. Though the premise itself is simple, the strategy to succeed is anything but. This is all about choosing when to kill barbarians and when to save them for later. Add to that all of the mayhem we will be throwing at you during your arena experience and it starts to get really tough really fast.”
A key is working with oyur partner to survive.
