Rotary Club President Says Shen Yun ‘Very impressive’

NEW YORK—Shen Yun Performing Arts once again performed to a sold-out crowd at Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater at on Saturday afternoon, leaving audience members impressed.

Joyce Stager, president of the Pequannock Valley Rotary Club and her granddaughter, Abby J. Lorenzo, were among those in attendance.

“I thought it was just beautiful, well produced and I liked it a lot,” Ms. Stager said after the performance, adding. “My club will hear about this on Wednesday. It was very impressive.”

Shen Yun’s dance techniques, live orchestra that joins eastern and Western instruments, and stunning costumes, combine for a truly unique experience unlike other shows seen today.

Ms. Lorenzo loved the dancing the most, commenting her favorite part was “when they would spin around the stage.”

Classical Chinese dance includes highly technical techniques including jumping, leaping, turning, and flipping.

True Chinese Culture

“I loved the technique and the gracefulness of the women,” said Hallie, a Chinese student. “I think it showed true Chinese culture.”

Shen Yun, which was established in 2006, “is a presentation of traditional Chinese culture as it once was: a study in grace, wisdom, and the virtues distilled from the five millennia of Chinese civilization,” according to the company’s website.

The divinely inspired Chinese traditional culture has been all but demolished for more than 60 years while under communist rule in China, according to the company’s website.

Hallie mentioned she loved the Snowflakes Welcoming Spring, a piece in which the dancers spin and twirl sequined handkerchiefs, tossing and catching them in the air much to the delight of audience members.

“I think that it had an inner meaning behind it,” Hallie commented. “I think it’s really wonderful that the audience got to see that.”

Shen Yun displays the principles of benevolence and justice, propriety, and wisdom, respect for the heavens, and divine retribution which originate from Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism, the essence of traditional Chinese culture.

The piece, Before Disaster, The Divine is Rescuing, which shows the persecution of Falun Dafa in today’s China struck Hallie, “I think it showed everyone what’s happening in China.”

Falun Dafa, which is guided by the principals of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance, has “helped over a hundred million Chinese people understand and return to the essence of traditional Chinese culture—Confucian, Buddhist, and Taoist schools of thought,” according to the Shen Yun website.

Since 1999, the Chinese Communist Party has used its powers and resources in a ruthless and systematic campaign to eradicate Falun Dafa.

Shen Yun will close out its run at Lincoln Center on Sunday April 22 with two shows, at 2pm and 7pm.
