Roman Reigns has been named “the only credible option” to defeat new WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar.

Lesnar took the title after destroying John Cena at the recent SummerSlam.

“But, despite Lesnar’s incredibly flattering booking, wrestling history has shown us that dominant monster heels exist mainly to be stopped at some point—and there is no better person for this role than Roman Reigns,” wrote Sharon Glencross, a columnist at Bleacher Report.

“He’s the only credible option left to defeat Lesnar and win the belt. Cena may be getting his rematch at Night of Champions, but after his dismal performance against Lesnar at SummerSlam, few can believe he has a legitimate shot at defeating him.”

“Popular babyfaces Daniel Bryan and Dean Ambrose are both out right now—and even if they were around, the size difference alone might prevent fans from being able to suspend their disbelief and think they can actually stop Lesnar. Reigns, however, has never lost clean to Lesnar in a match like Cena has. He also has the size needed to convince people he has a credible shot at defeating the former MMA star in the ring.

“Perhaps more importantly, stopping Lesnar’s reign of terror might be the thing that finally gets Reigns over massively as a babyface and turns him into the star WWE so desperately wants him to be.”

The column comes after Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that Reigns will in fact face Lesnar at WrestleMania 31 next year.

Rumors have pegged The Rock as a possible opponent but Dave Meltzer of the newsletter says that Reigns vs Lesnar was decided on either shortly before or shortly after WrestleMania 30.

Lesnar’s SummerSlam and Night of Champions matches with John Cena were originally set to be Lesnar vs. Daniel Bryan until Bryan got injured. The idea would have been that Lesnar returned to crush the hearts of fans with a reality check by defeating Bryan, continued his dominance and then Reigns would have saved the day and ended Lesnar’s reign.

WrestleMania 31 is slated to take place on March 29, 2015 in Santa Clara, California.

As for the present time, Wyatt goes against and defeats Bray Wyatt via disqualification when Luke Harper and Erick Rowan interfere at the WWE Smackdown on August 29, reported Cageside Seats.

The show was taped, meaning the full spoilers are already available.
