Toronto Mayor Rob Ford on Tuesday admitted that “yes, I have smoked crack cocaine,” according to a report from the Toronto Star. He later clarified that he is not addicted.
The Star published a report on Tuesday, saying Ford made the admission to reporters at city hall.
He continued that he smoked crack “probably in one of my drunken stupors.”
“Yes, I have smoked crack cocaine,” Ford told reporters Tuesday, The Associated Press reported. “There have been times when I’ve been in a drunken stupor. That’s why I want to see the tape. I want everyone in the city to see this tape. I don’t even recall there being a tape or video. I want to see the state that I was in.”
A video emerged that purportedly shows Ford smoking crack. Police say that they have obtained a copy of the video, with the police chief saying he is “disappointed” with what he saw.
Ford, however, did not say if he was on the video in the Star report.
Over the past week, he said he will not step down.
John Filion and Paul Ainslie, two Toronto Councillors, are looking to suspend Mayor Rob Ford’s term amid allegations over a video that purportedly shows him smoking crack cocaine.
The Globe and Mail reported that the motion was filed on Tuesday.
