A man was killed during an apparent road rage incident in Orlando over the weekend, with reports saying the gunman was armed with a semi-automatic rifle.

The victim, 47-year-old Fred William Turner, was shot and killed as he was driving on Interstate 4, according to ClickOrlando.com.

The eastbound I-4 lanes were closed on Saturday night due to a police investigation.

Officials suspect the killing was due to road rage.

Turner called 911 at around 3 p.m., saying that someone was following him as head was going towards Orlando. He then said the car pulled beside him and a gunman pulled out a rifle.

The dispatcher then said they heard multiple gunshots, leaving Turner dead.

“While on the phone, the caller stated that the vehicle following him had earlier pulled up next to his vehicle and someone displayed what appeared to be a semiautomatic weapon to him,” Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Debbie Carter told ABC Action News.

Officials said they were looking for a gray, newer model Ford Taurus with tinted windows.

“The caller stated that he had done nothing to cause someone to follow him,” Carter told ABC.

Deputies told the Orlando Sentinel that they are unsure what might have led to the shooting.
