Rising Star on ABC premieres on Sunday, June 22 at 9 p.m. EDT.
The show is aimed at reinventing the traditional singing competition by giving the audience the final say in real time.
“The show follows a group of aspiring singers as they perform live. During the performances, viewers vote in real time via an App to determine if the singer will advance in the competition. If the voting reaches a certain threshold, the performer moves on,” the network says in the description.
“In addition, the performer can see how the voting is going throughout the performance, so the feedback is immediate and dramatic.”
Brad Paisley, Josh Groban, Kesha, and Ludacris are the judges.
Voters vote via the Rising Star App, which is available for Apple and Android devices, among others.
The first qualifier will introduce the first contestants.
The show is slated to run for 10 episodes.
This and the next two are the qualifiers.
The following three weeks are the duels.
The next two weeks are the quarterfinals; then the last two weeks are the semifinals and finals.
