A huge fire broke out at the Richmond Chevron refinery in California on Thursday night.

According to reports on Twitter, the fire was seen for miles in the night sky.

Officials described the fire as “normal flaring,” and they said the fire is a normal procedure to vent gas.

No emergency alert was needed, and no fire crews are on the scene.

NBC viewers said they could see the fire from as El Cerrito Hills, San Rafael, San Francisco, and the Bay Bridge.
