China’s media reported that at 9:10 a.m. on June 3, Zhou Kai, a retired member of China’s Armed Police Force, broke into the Administration Building of Wuhan University and held the Deputy Head of the Party Committee Office at gunpoint for 6-hours. According to the report, when Zhou fired his gun at the police negotiations team, he was then shot dead by police sharpshooters. The hostage was then freed and the wounded police negotiations team member hospitalized. The atmosphere on the scene was described as intense.
According to the report by the Broadcasting Corporation of China (BCC), at about 9:10 a.m. on June 3, an armed man broke into the Administration Building of Wuhan University and abducted a female leader in the Party Committee Office. The abductor, Zhou Kai, was a staff member of the Wuhan University Logistics Group. He had once served in the Department of China’s Armed Police Force, but was currently serving a sentence for committing a crime. Wuhan University students posted articles on the school’s Internet bulletin board questioning the actions taken by the police. Based on the posted messages, Zhou entered the Office to ask the school for a resolution to his problem. Zhou held the deputy head at gunpoint only because he had not received a satisfactory answer to his questions.

According to a report on cnhubei.com, Zhou, 40-years old, was a phone wiring worker at the Operator’s Room in the Wuhan University Logistics Group. Zhou’s father was a veteran professor of the Department of Physics at Wuhan University.
In an effort to better understand the shooting, an Epoch Times reporter called the Party Committee Office of Wuhan University. No one answered the phone. The Administration Office of Wuhan Municipal Government said that they would not answer any questions regarding the incident over the phone. The Epoch Times also called the hotline of the Wuhan City Mayer, but no one answered the phone.
