When the two men in this video were passing through Onelli, Rio Negro in Argentina, they saw something odd off the highway. Instead of driving on by they pulled off to take a look. They walked toward the strange sight and realized what they were seeing was a wild horse tangled in a tall wire fence. Rather than driving away, they dropped everything to free it.

The men approach the horse carefully, aware that spooking it might cause it to injure itself, or if they aren’t careful, them. The first man treads carefully up behind it and takes hold of its head. The horse struggles for a moment, but then lies still and the man covers its eye to help keep it calm.

The second man climbs through the fence to work on the tangled wires. It’s incredibly dangerous to try and free a hooved wild animal from a trapped situation, just one kick could cause a serious injury, so he stays clear of the feet. He tests the horse’s leg, testing to see if it is broken and how the horse will react to him touching it. When he’s sure the horse isn’t going to kick out, he quickly moves the wires.

The wild horse lets them help, as if it knows what they are doing. Finally, they free its leg, and the first man lets go. Even when they try to spook it, it stays lying down. After a moment or two they get it up and it runs away, barely lame, back to freedom.

These two men had the heart to pull over and rescue the wild horse, when they could have driven by. It was dangerous, but they risked their own safety to save the life of the horse.
